6BB AN INDEPENDENT SUPPLEMENT BY MIA MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS GROUP TO THE SUN SENTINEL FRIDAY MAY 13, 2016 Four of the Most Powerful & Influential Black Professionals in Business and Industry for 2016 are Right Here in Miramar! It goes without saying that truly, everything IS Right Here in Miramar—including four of our very own named in this month’s issue of Legacy Magazine: Mayor Wayne M. Messam, Vice Mayor Maxwell B. Chambers, Commissioner Darline B. Riggs and Police Chief Dexter M. Williams. It is because of their hard work in representing the interests of all Miramar residents that we congratulate each and every one of them on a “job well done!” Mayor Messam Mayor Messam, who will receive the Public Official of the Year Award for Broward and Palm Beach Counties, has held that office for a little more than 15 months and has spearheaded several initiatives in that short time which include the State of the City Address last October, the groundbreaking of the upcoming 5,000-seat amphitheater in December 2015 and the 2016 Mayor’s 3k Run/Walk/Health Fair last month, just to name a few. Commissioner Chambers Also on the dais for 15 months, Commissioner Chambers, who is now Vice Mayor of The City, has been actively involved in bringing the Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center Career Expo to the City; the Progressive Firefighters Information Seminars to bring more diversity to The City’s firefighter staff, as well as the “Yellow Ribbon Initiative” at City Hall to honor 170 service men and women from Miramar who deployed for one year for overseas duty last month. Commissioner Riggs Not to be outdone, during her 15 months on the dais also, Commissioner Riggs has been busy super-serving our City’s residents. During her term as Vice Mayor, at her inaugural health fair, more than 400 residents from Miramar and the surrounding cities received free health screenings and participated in a bike giveaway; along with Mayor Messam, she has also been an integral part of The City’s Haitian Heritage Month Celebration. Chief Williams As a Miramar resident for more than 20 years, Chief Williams has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience -- 22 of which have been with the Miramar Police Department. Chief Williams has led patrol operations; internal affairs; field training operations; criminal investigations; crime scene, property and evidence; domestic violence and victim services; citizens volunteer programs and recruitment and most recently served as Assistant Chief of Police until serving as Interim Chief since January. He was promoted permanently to the position in March 2016. Whether it’s to LIVE, WORK OR PLAY…it’s Right Here in Miramar!
