CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
THE BIG SWITCH ON
T
housands of revellers are expected to wrap
up warm and turn out for the annual
festivities as the town officially welcomes in
the yuletide with the Christmas Lights
Switch On.
Taking place on Friday, 15th November the
evening’s delights will get underway at 7pm and
run on through the night until 9pm.
The Christmas Lights Switch On really has
become a favourite for people of all ages to come
together and celebrate the start of the festive
season ahead.
A lantern parade led by Santa and his real
reindeers will leave Moorlands House in
Stockwell Street at 7pm with the lights officially
switched on by the Leek Town Mayor with the
help of two willing assistants from Horton Lodge
and Springfield Schools with the switch on
expected to take place at the bottom of Derby
Street at approximately 7.20pm.
As the fun gets underway residents and
visitors alike can browse the 40 Totally Locally
stalls that will be selling their high quality foods
and gifts in the Market Place along with the John
Collins funfair rides which will be providing the
entertainment for thrill seekers in Derby Street
and High Street car park.
If last years event is anything to go by then
residents have some real excitement and fun in
store. The lantern parade proved a bit hit with all
youngsters invited to take part as they paraded
from Moorlands House, led by the local
Moorlands Youth Band, as did the fancy dress
competition. Leek’s very own Moorlands Radio
compered the evening and provided the seasonal
soundtrack for the event along with choirs from
All Saints' School and St. Edward's Junior High
who treated the crowds to festive songs and
carols.
A successful ‘Totally Locally’ market lined the
streets as did charity and community stalls who
were all well supported in their fundraising
efforts on the night.
Make sure you don’t miss a minute of the fun
this year and secure your spot in the centre of
town on Friday 15th November for the big Lights
Switch On.
