JEANETTE CORBISHLEY DANCE STUDIO
Dance school students ‘ express ’ themselves
FROM Peppa Pig to bluebells in the forest and even a dancing donkey from Shrek ! This year ’ s dance extravaganza from Jeanette Corbishley Dance Studio was another roaring success . Simply entitled ‘ Express
Yourself ’, the studio ’ s bi annual show , moved for the first time to The Rep Theatre in Stoke from its usual venue of Westwood College . Principal , Jeanette Corbishley said that this was not a decision she took lightly but felt both the evolution of the studio , skill set of the students and the experience of a professional stage would be incredibly beneficial . Choreography and theme preparation started back in summer last year with lots of ideas gathered from Jeanette ’ s visit to the West End . Inspiration was taken from Shrek the Musical , watching the changing of the Guards and from the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory .
“ When I put together a show I have to think of characters and themes that will work for all the students , who range from two to 17 and all demonstrate different strengths and skills and most importantly a love of dance ,” explained Jeanette .
Once the themes are in place the costumes then have to be sourced , which are all designed to enhance the different dances and also prompt lots of discussion between the students . The new year certainly started with a bang for the studio as the rehearsals commenced in a flurry of excitement which continued until show time the week before Easter .
“ I really want to say a huge thank you not only to all my students , who were fantastic considering it was the first time for many performing in a professional Theatre , but to the parents and grandparents who ventured out in all conditions to ensure rehearsals were attended both in the studio and at the theatre , and of course for all the help and support the students family provided throughout the year .”
It is this real family focus which has helped the dance studio and Jeanette become a renowned face for dance tuition in the town , this year celebrating 11 years in business . The results speak for themselves with more than 500 students gaining 100 % pass rates in their exams , with most seeing merit or distinction grades across Ballet , Tap and Jazz disciplines .
Jeanette chose to teach the BBO syllabus following her own training and due to its dedication to the true dance discipline .
“ It is also very rewarding to see several of my former students going on to further enhance their training at university .” Added former Leek High student Jeanette .
Over the years the studio has grown to over 130 students and provides each child with the full guidance and attention needed to reach their full potential .
“ Dance is not only a fantastic form of exercise it also helps to grow confidence , self expression , and discipline which encourages a child ’ s self esteem , something I really pride myself on promoting .
“ Actions speak louder than words so I would be delighted to invite anyone to come along for a complimentary trial and assessment . To take advantage of this please call the studio on 07940 422441 or email me on Jeanettecorbishleydancestudio @ hotmail . co . uk .
