Well what a year it has been. We hope you have enjoyed our coverage since launching last year and continue to do so. The community of Leek really is a thriving one with lots going on and plenty to get involved in no matter what age you are. There have been some amazing events over the past year, which have illustrated not only the kind spirit but the far reaching diversities of the people of Leek, that make it such a great town to live in. So in an attempt to dispel any January blues in this the first edition of 2014 we take a look at how great ‘Life’ in Leek is. Sitting right on the doorstep over in Cheddleton we take a look at the amazing state of the art sports and recreation facilities that opened to the public in Felthouse Lane last year. The Pointon’s Sports Facility and Children’s Play Area really is a wonderful asset to the area and offers something for all ages to enjoy. If your new year’s resolution is to get to the gym more often why not give the free outdoor adults fitness centre a try this January, losing the pounds while saving a few pennies - what could be better? We also celebrate with the ladies of Woodcroft W.I. as they reach their 40th anniversary in 2014. We had a chat with them about the misconceptions of the W.I. and try to encourage some new blood to get in touch and join the fun. Contributing to this edition are some new faces as well as familiar ones with advice and informative articles on a range of topics from road safety to heating your home, we have it covered. We feature a number of local businesses in this the first magazine of the year including a couple of fantastic local country pubs, ideal for a hearty meal or a pit stop if you are making the most of the beautiful surrounding countryside with a brisk walk, I can personally say that they come very highly recommended. And so as we look ahead to the forthcoming year we would love to hear from anyone who would like their event, club, group or who has a story to tell to get in touch. Happy reading from Deborah and all the team here at Leek Life. H Deborah x Did you know that you can view Leek Life online?
