LEEK TWINNING ASSOCIATION eek to remember the fallen miles but cultural divides. After the Royal Salute Leek’s foreign guests met at The Red Lion in the town’s Market Place for refreshments. Later they then attended a dedication at Ball-Haye Green Recreation Ground, followed by tea and coffee which was made available at The Ball-Haye Green Sports and Social Club Sunday night was a twinning social event to thank the guests and their host families for their support. It was held fittingly at The Foxlowe arts centre which put on a choice of delicious hot meals and which were enjoyed and followed by entertainment supplied by The Westwood Band. On Monday 11th November, the final full day of the visit gave the Italians a chance to explore nearby Chester for a day of sightseeing and shopping while the German Delegation departed from Manchester as they began their journey home. The Italians left shorty after on Tuesday morning where they were waved off from Leek Bus Station at the start of their journey home. A representative from Leek’s Twinning Association spoke to Leek Life following the visit commenting: “A successful and well managed weekend was had by all.” Leek Life January/February 2014 19
