eek to remember the fallen
miles but cultural divides. After the Royal Salute
Leek’s foreign guests met at The Red Lion in the
town’s Market Place for refreshments. Later they
then attended a dedication at Ball-Haye Green
Recreation Ground, followed by tea and coffee
which was made available at The Ball-Haye Green
Sports and Social Club
Sunday night was a twinning social event to
thank the guests and their host families for their
support. It was held fittingly at The Foxlowe arts
centre which put on a choice of delicious hot meals
and which were enjoyed and followed by
entertainment supplied by The Westwood Band.
On Monday 11th November, the final full day of
the visit gave the Italians a chance to explore
nearby Chester for a day of sightseeing and
shopping while the German Delegation departed
from Manchester as they began their journey
home. The Italians left shorty after on Tuesday
morning where they were waved off from Leek Bus
Station at the start of their journey home.
A representative from Leek’s Twinning
Association spoke to Leek Life following the visit
commenting: “A successful and well managed
weekend was had by all.”
