Ledbury Bowling Club T he first thing we want to do is say a very big “Thank You” to all everyone who attended the Macmillan Coffee Morning and helped raise £319 for this worthwhile cause. Thanks also to all those who provided the wonderful array of cakes, as well as prizes for the raffle. The annual Bowls Tour in late September was another success with members visiting Exmouth and enjoying meeting with, and playing against, local teams in the area, although the weather could have been much kinder. Next year’s tour will be based in Weston Super Mare and names are already being given to secure places for what always proves to be a convivial time. But now the bowling season is ended and the green has been readied for its winter recuperation. The last game to be played at home was the friendly, yet secretly competitive, match between the teams randomly chosen to play for either the Captain or the President. One of the members suggested that the money raised from the “Spider” roll up before play be donated to help little Oscar Saxleby Lee who has a rare form of cancer. The members willingly dug deep and £155 was collected to help fund his treatment. Our thoughts are with Oscar and his family and we hope all will go well for them in the future. The game was followed by the season’s Presentation of Awards for the internal competitions and rounded off by a tea. During the winter there are a number of non-bowling events planned - from Christmas entertainment to Quizzes and various items in between - and for a mere £10 anyone can become a Social member to participate in all events throughout the year.
