POETRY NEWS from LEDBURY POETRY FESTIVAL Poet Mike Barfield entertains schoolchildren at Ledbury Out Loud T his month we have a focus on the Festival’s fantastic Schools Programme showcasing what the Festival does with local school children and vulnerable young people. Sessions in the last month include dynamic Young Shakespeare performances and ever popular “Ledbury Out Loud” mini festivals which have involved over 500 local school children. If your child has come home from school enthused about poetry, now you know why! 5ISPVHIPVU"VUVNO, the Festival’s important and valuable work in the community continues. Other groups are taking place across the county with Hereford Young Carers, PRU’s, nursing homes, care settings and the NHS. If you have a group you feel would benefit from the Festival’s schools and community programmes, please get in touch below. And the popular Poetry Salons resume! The next ones are on Monday 11th November and Tuesday 10th December at Ledbury Books and Maps, 20 High St, Ledbury 7pmto 9pm. Entry costs £5 (including a glass of wine). These are opportunities to expand your enjoyment of poetry through readings and conversation. You can also perform your own poems to a friendly and welcoming audience and meet other writers. The Festival’s international Poetry Competition winners have just been announced. Read JMHS and Foyle Young Poets performing at Festival the top poems from over 1000 entries, and maybe think about entering your own next year! Ledbury Poetry Festival is one of the few poetry competitions which have children’s and young people’s categories alongside adult, and entry for children and young people is free!
