Learning for Everyone Autumn/Winter 2018 | Page 36

L Family Learning Works! Children only spend 15% of their waking hours in school so it stands to reason that when parents, grandparents and carers encourage a child to develop a love of learning, the child will have better chances of success at school and beyond. Our courses help you support a child’s learning at school and nursery, make learning fun, make sense of homework and support those big steps into Reception and Key Stage 2. You will make friends, share experiences and find out how to recognise and support your child’s individual needs. 36 Some courses lead to a qualification and many of our learners progress into voluntary work or employment in schools and pre school settings. “I did Keeping up with the Children in Maths and English with Family Learning and passed my Functional Skills qualifications at the same time as learning how children are taught in school. This has really helped me get a job as a Teaching Assistant, which I really enjoy” Tracy Regan For details of what’s running in your area, please check on www.yorklearning.org.uk, the Family Learning York Facebook page or look out for the leaflet at children’s centres, libraries and schools.
