Colonialism in North America meant
competition. European countries
eager to establish and expand
colonies frequently resorted to
warfare. Britain, with its Thirteen
Colonies, was looking to expand
west while the French, occupying
New France (Canada), were looking
to expand south. Conflict occurred at
the Ohio River Valley, which was an
important trading area with access
to the Mississippi River. Both sides
sought allies among the local Native
American populations. Discover the
role this war played in the future
founding of the United States of
America.

global war that began as a conflict
between Great Britain and her
Thirteen Colonies. Discuss George
Washington as commander of the
Continental Army. Examine the
battles at Lexington, Concord and
Bunker Hill, as well as the surrender
at Yorktown. Explore the winter
camp at Valley Forge including the
extreme conditions and why it was a
turning point in the war.
