THE GREAT PEGASUS WING RACE!

GREEK MYTHS
In our Greek Myths issue of AQUILA magazine we took part in some theoretical science about Pegasus! Now let’ s start horsin’ around and have a go at this!

HARVEY’ S MISSION

Can you flap like Pegasus and create enough air movement to move a paper horse?!

GET STARTED

Step 1: MAKE YOUR PEGASUS
Print out your template then cut around the horse shape and its wing. Repeat this so you have two horses and a wing for each of them.( Yes, your horse only needs one wing for this game.)
Step 2: ATTACH THE WING
Attach the wing A to A and B to B. Glue it on and fold the wing so it’ s sticking up( so it flaps when moved with your finger). Or make your own wing and glue it on. Experiment!
Step 3: MAKE YOUR FLAPPER
Cut or find two rectangles of stiff card( around the size of a book cover). This will be your wing flapper to create wind. To make it a fair race both flappers need to be the exact same size and material. If you want to race against more people, each person wil need their own flapper!
Step 4: RACE
Place each Pegasus on a table or smooth surface and decide on the START line and the FINISH line of the race. On‘ GO!’, flap your cards up and down to create wind.
ACTIVITY SKILLS
10-15 mins to make
+ as long as it takes to RACE!
DIFFICULTY
o Template( on page 3) o 2 sheets of A4 paper o 2 rectangles of stiff card o o
YOU WILL NEED:
Scissors Glue or tape
Try to push your Pegasus across the table using only the wind – no touching allowed! The first Pegasus to cross the finish line wins! CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
