HISTORY LeadingAge New York is the only statewide organization representing the entire continuum of not-for-profit and public continuing care organizations. Our provider members are dedicated to offering high quality health care, housing and community-based services to the elderly and people with special needs. The annual LeadingAge New York Art Exhibit is a collection of the works of residents, registrants, staff and volunteers affiliated with LeadingAge New York and the Adult Day Health Care Council (ADHCC) members. The annual exhibit began in 1991. Over time the number of pieces shown has grown from just a handful to more than 230 entries. The artists come from the gamut of places and backgrounds; some are classically trained artists, others are not. They all share the common bond of artistic expression. JUDGING PROCESS Submissions are accepted from residents, registrants, staff and volunteers of LeadingAge NY and ADHCC members and are divided into two categories with several types of awards within each category. Awards are presented annually to artists in each of the two categories: Resident/Registrant Best in Show Award Merit Awards Honorable Mention Awards Staff/Volunteer Merit Award Honorable Mention Awards Earl Gifford, LeadingAge NY membership specialist, is the curator of the annual art exhibit. He takes impeccable care of each piece of art for the exhibit and his dedication makes for an extensive collection of inspirational works of art year after year. LeadingAge NY members provide the highest quality care and experiences for their residents, registrants and staff. We believe this art exhibit exemplifies the quality of life that participation in programs like this can offer by providing chances for self-expression and artistic fulfillment. The LeadingAge NY art exhibit is our gift to you, a microcosm of the myriad contributions to life that our residents, registrants and caregivers make every day. Sharing their talents with you reaffirms their place in society as productive, creative people no matter what physical, emotional or age-related barriers they may face. Artists in both categories are eligible to earn either our Staff Choice Award, which provides an additional opportunity for artist recognition and display in LeadingAge NY staff members’ individual offices or our Gallery Award, works chosen for that honor hang in the public spaces of LeadingAge NY offices in Latham. Every entry is a winner. A recent addition to the art show is the Judges Award, where our judges pick an entry to hang in their office. Please note that due to space constraints, not all works are on display at this conference. p.2
