Understanding Symptoms
and Behaviors
This session is designed to help health care
providers and staff members appreciate
some of the newer information we have
available in understanding dementia so you
can work more effectively with people living
with the condition. This session will explore
the relationship of dementia to delirium and
depression in complex care situations, as
well as the symptoms of various forms of
dementia that impact assessment, treatment
and care. We will look at the links between
what is happening in the brain and new
behaviors, changes in reactions and responses,
different language comprehension and speech
patterns and ability to take in, process and
use sensory information in all five areas. This
session will be very hands-on and interactive.
It will provide practical and valuable strategies
and skills to make a difference. It will help you
to see and understand things differently and
to provide better care and support to those
