From questions, action to promote
Elkhart as a home for professionals
to attract professionals to live in Elkhart.
There is nothing magic about 500, but the
concept of 500 Families rolls off the tongue
and is a vision that sticks with people.
We released our action. The initial media
coverage was great. But what would be the
reaction?
For the past several months, the Chamber’s
councils have been discussing the
challenges facing Elkhart and our region.
The challenges come from many directions,
but a common thread is that too few
professionals, upon deciding to move
to this region, consider Elkhart for their
homes.
What would happen if more professionals
came to Elkhart? What do we need in
Elkhart to make it as attractive as nearby
communities? What if we tried to attract
500 families of educated professionals to
our community?
With an influx of new professionals, our
unemployment rate would drop. Our
graduation numbers would improve.
Our educational attainment rates would
increase. And we would see additional
