answer for employee termination in public schools. Prior to my teaching career, I worked as a regional manager for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. My private sector role was largely guided by forecasted revenue and the always present fear of unemployment, a fear I shared with my subordinates. Motivating people to change is far easier when there is no option for not implementing said change. Love it, hate it, indifferent; we were all bound by the golden handcuffs. There was no protection from unions or tenured positions. I ran into my former principal the other day. He politely asked about the administrative leadership cohort I have been part of, and I tried to conceal my excitement at the thought of the approaching career transition. All of my above concerns were presented in a rather embarrassing bout of “verbal diarrhea.” He nodded his head throughout my verbose monologue, smiled and said, “It’s O.J.T. man.
