scenes of the superintendent trying to navi-
gate a school bus through an obstacle course
set the stage for a great first day of the new
school year. Students are currently working
with DIGICOM staff to complete the script
and acquire wardrobe for the next episode,
which will feature safety and security per-
sonnel. And, yes, the students insist that I do
my own stunts as a security officer.
The Not So Undercover Supe series has
served us well to engage students, staff, and
community. It has reportedly “humanized”
the role of the school district superintendent,
and certainly has helped to inform and grow
respect for the roles that we all play in a school
system. Although filmed on weekends with
volunteers, we now have a waiting list of de-
partments who wish to be featured. The DIGI-
COM partnership has grown to include digital
literacy instruction in many middle and high
schools, and culminates with a district film fes-
tival each academic year. I encourage you to use
video to tell your story.
Scott Bailey is the superintendent of
Desert Sands Unified School District.
As an intern in that department, I quickly learned that preparing
24,000 meals per day is a daunting task.
