with the kids, further focusing on the positives with others.
15. Habit Factor. This amazing app
allows you to track your goals, and breakthroughs are its specialty. The site is built
on the popular book that helps you focus
on overcoming challenges, seeing grit as
the path to success, and getting unstuck.
It even has an accompanying online course
with recorded webinars about productivity,
vision statements, energy and relationships.
Test out the free version of the app before
committing to the $4.99 version to see if the
tracking, reminders and methodology work
for you. Logging and checking off accomplishments are paramount in this app. Did
we mention this is the No. 1 reviewed goalsetting app?
Finally, as you start to see yourself processing the application of your new skills,
consider those who you can mentor with
similar tools. We are a growing and learning profession, so take that additional time
to help nurture the personal development
skills in others and further maximize your
influence and leadership reach. What better
time to broaden and strengthen your professional self than the beginning of a new year?

16. FitBit/Health/MapMyRun. Educators are crazy busy and active people.
Have you ever wondered why your feet
ache at the end of the day after spending
the day on a comprehensive high school
campus? Or did you sit too long in your
central office role? Built into the iPhone
now and interfacing with devices such as
FitBit and apps such as MapMyRide and
MapMyRun is the Health app.
Many used to put step counters in their
pocket to track their movement, and the
iPhone does that with the Health app. It will
track stairs climbed and, depending on what
device and app it syncs with, your Health
app can tell you how you are sleeping, how
you are eating, and reinforce your need for
taking care of yourself.
Next steps
With the growing number of resources
and apps available online, there are a few tips
we suggest. First of all, begin with a tool or
two where you’d like to see personal growth.
Have you tried to lose weight or walk a bit
more each day? Do you need to spend a little
more time focusing on the positive?
Begin with the end in mind. Where would
you like to be as a leader and what types of
tools can help facilitate the destination to
which you’re headed? Use that self-insight to
set some goals, be it in writing and charting
goals or acquiring a broader array of structuring devices used to facilitate meetings.
