Laura Radensky Improving Communication 4 (continued from page 25) How do you hope your project might unfold in the months and years ahead and what impact do you hope it will have on the field at large? For my agency the impact will be positive as it will provide us with a more effective communication framework to use as we experience future growth and for more concrete formalized structure for planning in the case of unforeseen circumstances. On a more individual level, my goal was to bring more awareness to the division staff of the need for timely communication and the impact on staff as changes are implemented. We focus on operational implementation which needs to be the primary focus, but lack of timely communication as we implement big changes has an impact on staff. Hopefully as we continue to experience large changes in the healthcare field going forward, my agency will incorporate the broad communication to staff on an earlier basis within the process. 5 How has the action learning process in the context of the Leadership Academy experience contributed to your growth as a leader? Being empowered to be the one to propose change is a useful experience. While I am intimately involved in the implementation of numerous change projects, I am not necessarily the one proposing them so it is useful to have the experience of doing so in order to be able to acknowledge and identify other times when I am able to do this.
