To prove the point that you have the power to begin this rewiring, let’ s do a little exercise together. Right now, where you are sitting and reading this, I challenge you to imagine a little bird with bright pink feathers and a yellow plume on its head fluttering over to you and perching in front of you.
Go ahead, imagine it now.
Can you see its bright and unusual feathers? Now add a little knapsack hanging around its neck. Out of the top of the bag, notice a letter poking out. Watch the bird reach down and pluck the note out of the sack with its beak, then take a few little hops and deliver it to you. On the front of the letter is your name. And in the top left corner, the sender’ s name is written in red: Jesus. Now imagine the bird flapping its pink wings and flying away. Did you take the time and do the work to imagine it? If you didn’ t, close your eyes and do it now.
“ As we renew our minds, He rewires our minds!”
My friend, if you can imagine a pink bird with a yellow plume on its head and a knapsack around its neck, delivering a letter to you from Jesus Himself... you can think of anything you set your mind to. And not just goofy imaginary things but the realest, most wonderful things of all. of thinking but can restore our minds with new thoughts. We can change our minds and be transformed as we meditate on the Letter that God did send to us, with Jesus’ own words written in red. And the more we meditate on what He says is true and excellent and praiseworthy, the more healed and whole and unstuck we will become. For quite some time I was stuck in a seemingly endless cycle, ruminating on what had been spoken over me. Mocking and shaming put downs had torn my psyche to shreds. The pattern of my thinking was stuck, repeating internally all that had been said. The more the words looped, the more I replayed them in my thoughts, the deeper the wounds in my heart and the grooves in my mind became. The neuropathways I kept traveling down were growing deeper and deeper in my brain until I was entrenched. But then God, in His kindness, showed me what He had to say about me. Though a person’ s words can be merciless, the Word of God is rich in mercy and oh so healing.
The Lord also showed me the power He had put within me: the power to resist conforming to old patterns and to commit instead to a renewed mind by thinking new thoughts. Thoughts that are truer, purer, and more praiseworthy.
We can and we must resist these negative thought patterns.
We do not have to stay stuck in old patterns For we are told in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to“ take
