seeing , or feeling things .” The word expert also comes from Latin and means “ a person wise from experience .” We become experts by learning from experience , by intentionally reflecting on life .
Our setting — a workplace , a ministry location , a local church — can be turned into God ’ s classroom to acquire wisdom . We don ’ t have to go somewhere else , attend a seminar , experience a weekend retreat , or pay for a workshop . Wisdom can be drawn from the reservoir of our shared experience within a given setting .
Capturing this learning is not a singles match but a team sport ; we invite work colleagues or ministry partners to learn together , collecting the insights of the many . Just as “ iron sharpens iron ” ( Proverbs 27:17 , NLT ), a sharpening happens when learning partners intentionally gather together to extract wisdom from experience .
