must turn back to His truth before we can move forward and receive times of spiritual refreshing . Throughout church history , every move of the Spirit restored a truth that was already there in the Word of God , just waiting for the Church to embrace it and walk in its fullness .
Most Evangelicals will confess that they believe the Bible is the inspired , inerrant Word of God . They will say they believe in the whole Bible , but do they really ? For example , there are numerous pastors who preach that spiritual gifts like healing and working of miracles ( see 1 Corinthians 12:8-12 ) are not for today . We even have a theological term for these Evangelical believers ; they are cessationists . They believe the charismatic gifts ceased when the canon of Scripture was closed . We know that this is not true when we read how healings and miracles continued throughout church history , but the doctrine of the spiritual gifts was restored during the Azusa Street Revival of 1906 .
The fire of Azusa Street first spread throughout Los Angeles , then to other states , and then internationally . In the fall of 1906 , 38 individuals were commissioned by the Azusa Street Mission as missionaries with both international and domestic trajectories . By 1908 , revival centering around the work of the Holy Spirit was taking place in 50 nations — with no signs of slowing down . This move of God was so explosive that by 1914 the Pentecostal movement had amassed members in every city in America with a population of over 3,000 people and every region around the world .
