Luke 10:19 , 21 V19 Behold , I give unto you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions , and over all the power of the enemy , and nothing shall by any means hurt you . V21 Nevertheless , do not rejoice in this , that the spirits are subject to you , but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven .
Don ’ t miss this ! Rather than celebrating all the disciples had done in his name , Jesus reminded them of the greatest gift of all : that their names are written in heaven : meaning they will have eternal life . Here , Jesus is presenting a strong statement that religious works — even supernatural , powerful , miraculous works , cannot and do not produce salvation and eternal life .
