This passage serves as a reminder that we will never“ run out of prospects.” The challenge for the church is not that there is no one left to reach. Rather, our challenge is finding sufficient numbers of workers to go into the fields to reach them. We must adopt the attitude of Jesus and have compassion. It is ironic that the culture outside the church recognizes this great need often with greater awareness than the church itself.
From the establishment of educational institutions to spearheading key movements such as the abolition of slavery, churches have historically been at the forefront of societal advancement. The historical role of churches in America has made our nation stronger morally, spiritually, and socially. Furthermore, several secularists today, most of whom are atheists, see significant value in churches in society. Some are even specifically asking churches to note the needs of culture and respond as we have historically.
