Taking the lead

Culture starts at the top of a company . Good leaders surround themselves with good people . No great coach has won without great players .
Any good business leader will tell you they need to be surrounded by great people who fit their mold in order to achieve their mission . Coach Gibbs has a set mold he looks for in potential employees of Joe Gibbs Racing ( JGR ).
Coach understands people , understands how to motivate them to work together toward a goal , and understands team dynamics . As he proved coaching the NFL ’ s Washington Redskins before creating our team , he knows how to build and lead winning teams .
But culture only starts at the top ; it must be nurtured throughout the company at every level .
When Coach started our company , he knew he wasn ’ t a car guy . After hiring driver Dale Jarrett and crew chief Jimmy Makar , he turned over finding the rest of the team members to Jimmy . Coach didn ’ t need to understand the nuts and bolts of building a NASCAR team , because Jimmy did . Coach only needed to rely on his ability to understand people .
