something more akin to exuberance . In some places , it was difficult to differentiate between what was meant to be a group of God ’ s holy people gathering together and some secular social gathering , music concert or TED-Talktype of gathering . A charismatic man was the center and the reason why masses were gathering , surely not God .
It ’ s possible my reaction could have been due to being tired out from all the traveling . I also know I must fight being overly critical . Others have warned me before against it , and I know I must be vigilant . Even so , I felt a bit like Jeremiah of old . His message was : “ Thus says the Lord : ‘ Stand in the ways and see , and ask for the old paths , where the good way is , and walk in it ; then you will find rest for your souls ’” ( Jeremiah 6:16 ). theme . Maybe people thought he needed to branch out . But God told His prophet that there would be no second sermon until the people in Jerusalem responded to the first one .
This is a severe statement , but maybe the crisis of today is that our modern Christianity has failed to understand the reality of the Christ of the New Testament , and instead has created an entirely new Christ and a whole different church .
He said this in so many ways and to anyone in Jerusalem who would listen to him . You can ’ t snub your nose at God and not expect to pay a terrible price . The people of Jerusalem who Jeremiah was talking to needed to learn from the past .
I get that Jeremiah ’ s one-point sermon got on people ’ s nerves . He only had that single
