Recently , I was in England where I love to see the old churches . During my travels to cities like York , Oxford and , of course , London , I ’ m always fascinated by these 1,200-year-old structures . I walk in and quietly imagine the presence of the many people throughout the generations who worshiped there .
The architecture and the atmosphere remind me of Isaiah 6 when worship is depicted , and you see the entire focus on the One who sits on the throne :
“ I saw the Lord , sitting on a throne , high and lifted up , and the train of his robe filled the temple . Above it stood seraphim ; each one had six wings : with two he covered his face , with two he covered his feet , and with two he flew . And one cried to another and said : ‘ Holy , holy , holy is the Lord of hosts ; the whole earth is full of his glory !’” ( Isaiah 6:1 – 3 ).
In those old stone churches , I can see these Christians down throughout the centuries gathering together , with one voice singing
