• Informationally . The Bible was something to be studied . The point was to grow in knowledge and insight , which certainly has been valuable in my life .
• Pragmatically . We engage Scripture for some practical principles to make our lives work better . Usually , these are the verses that are highlighted or underlined in our Bibles .
• Obligationally . Reading the Bible becomes an “ ought to .” It ’ s about checking the “ quiet time ” box . There isn ’ t much heart ; it is simply about duty .
In recent years I ’ ve focused on a different way to approach Scripture . I try to come to the Bible more relationally and affectionately . I regularly remind myself that when I open the Bible I ’ m not just reading an ancient book , I am meeting with the living God and my heavenly Father .
Hanging out doesn ’ t just allow us to see God clearly , but to see Him beautifully .
