Your Highest Calling Lance Witt
isn ’ t just living the Christian life “ for ” God , but actually doing life “ with ” God .
Let me use a marriage analogy that I think will help . I could do marriage “ for ” Connie by doing the things I think will please her . Things like making coffee for her in the morning , remembering her birthday , grilling her a good steak , mowing the yard , making sure to put the toilet seat down .
But I think we would all agree that doing good and noble tasks doesn ’ t equate to an intimate , loving relationship . They could be evidence of a great relationship , but in many marriages , they ’ ve become the relationship . There is simply no substitute for quality time together . My marriage gets stronger when we practice the art and discipline of hanging out .
The Bible is filled with invitations for us to simply “ hang out .” All of the biblical feasts and celebrations are calls to “ hang out ” and soak in the presence and goodness of God .
The challenge in Scripture to remember or think or meditate or ponder is an invitation to hang out with God . In the examples below , I ’ ve added italics to draw this to your attention .
