the Scriptures. To the extent that we read, meditate on, and study the Scriptures, we will be more able to sense the Spirit’ s leading.
I don’ t always feel the same feelings or see the Spirit lead in the same way. But I do test the experiences I’ m having, in order to see if it is the Spirit leading. I test them first through their congruence with God’ s revelation in Scripture and the typical roles of the Spirit. Then I test whether the experience is in line with the fruit of God’ s Spirit and God’ s call on my life. Finally I test them in community with others. Over time this process has become more natural and organic for me, and I’ ve gained greater fluency in sensing the Spirit’ s movement. But I always need to test my experiences in the above ways, waiting for discernment of what the Spirit is doing in my life and in the world.
How can we grow as maturing disciples of Jesus, while also fulfilling our calling as kingdom leaders? Through the life-long process of learning and practicing spiritual discernment!
