Thinking “ Good ”
I know , I know . “ Thinking good ” is lousy grammar , but I use this awkward phrase to make a point . Thus far we ’ ve explored healthful nourishment of your brain to invigorate it for making your mind right . Now we shift to an equally essential component of the brain reset : regaining control of the thoughts that your brain processes by shifting them from bad to good .
There ’ s a wonderful old proverb that says it succinctly : “ For as [ a person ] thinks within himself , so he is ” ( Prov . 23:7 NASB ). In other words , just as you are what you eat , you also are as you think . Dwell on the bad and you ’ re likely to be pessimistic , uptight , and melancholy . But focus on the good and you ’ ll undoubtedly be more optimistic , calm , and upbeat .
The good news here is that you are not in bondage to the hurt , distress , and distrust brought on by your trauma . With God ’ s help , you absolutely have the power to control and shape your thoughts — to “ think good ” by consciously looking for and focusing on
