The Precision Model : Orchestra An orchestra is the opposite of a natural garden . It takes extreme coordination . People willingly give up freedom to do something together that they could never do alone . As a result , they experience an excellence and joy that can be attained no other way . An orchestra ’ s precision requires dozens of people to play every note at the right time and in the right way . The marvel does not stop there . The orchestra includes many types of instruments , which represent centuries of craftsmanship . People who have rehearsed and developed their skills for decades assemble into assigned seats . The hall they play in is crafted for acoustics . And don ’ t forget the genius of the composer . It is difficult to overstate the magnificence of all these pieces fitting together around a common purpose .

The Concept Stage is highly creative and less structured . You want a great deal of creativity and less structure to impede that creativity . What I am describing applies to any kind of organization whether a nonprofit , governmental , service , manufacturer , or faith-based organizations . Anywhere there are people on a clear mission , new models for delivery products and services are always involved .
The Natural Garden minimizes controls and maximizes innovation . However , at some point there is enough of a concept that you must move into the construction and proving phases . Depending on what you are building , the Agile model ( football ) is good at this stage where you build some chunks , receive feedback , and revise quickly . The balancing act is that you have enough skill ( Precision / Orchestra ) to build or deliver the product or service , but the amount being delivered is relatively small and can be accomplished on short revision cycles to innovate rapidly .
As mentioned before , this confronts our human design . We have strong desires and minds of our own . But most things we cannot achieve unless we give up individual freedom to achieve something beyond ourselves .

When an organization finds a clear solution to any needed revisions , the Precision model helps standardize and move quickly to deliver more high-quality products / services to more people faster and in a predictable manner .
