Will We Choose Chaos or Community ?

In the gospel , winning looks like community . It looks like the individual looking out for the whole . It looks like a decision to love God and love the people around us . It looks like the reunification of the family of believers . It looks like a family of God bringing heaven to earth . I want you to put down your predetermined labels for a moment . I want you to lay aside your race , your political affiliation , and even your religion for a moment . And I want to tell you about Jesus . The teachings of Jesus are widely accepted to be beautiful wisdom on the value of love and human belonging . The long-shared quote by Mohandas Gandhi is “ I like your Christ . I do not like your Christians . Your Christians are so unlike your Christ .” Scripture says , “ They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world , and the world listens to them ” ( 1 John 4:5 ). This single verse almost answers the question Martin Luther King Jr . must have asked himself implicitly before writing his book , Where Do We Go From Here ?.
“ Where are we from ?” is typically asked before “ Where do we go from here ?”
“ This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one ’ s tribe , race , class , and nation is in reality a call for an allembracing and unconditional love for all mankind .”
I believe , especially after reading King ’ s speech “ Beyond Vietnam : A Time to Break Silence ,” that he would point us as a nation to 1 John 4:7 – 8 : “ Dear friends , let us love one another , for love comes from God . Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God . Whoever does not love does not know God , because God is love .”
