Frodo isn ’ t the hero of The Lord of the Rings . sneak away .
It ’ s true . I know he carries the ring all the way to Mordor , bearing the burden that no other man , elf , or dwarf could endure . But he ’ s not the hero .
We find out who the real hero is at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring . Frodo has carried the ring for the entire story so far , but he realizes that he doesn ’ t want to take his friends into the danger and doom that await him . So he tries to take one of the boats and
But Sam figures out what Frodo is going to do and catches him in the act of leaving . In desperation , Sam hurls himself at the boat to join Frodo , but he misses and , unable to swim , begins to sink .
Of course , Frodo saves Sam . The two get into the boat , and you can read the rest of the story for yourself . But it ’ s this act of complete selflessness that defines the journey that Frodo and Sam embark on together . Frodo does
