But I’ ve had many clients over the years who could tell you all about their issues, using the sophisticated language of current psychology, yet they were no closer to their restoration. Clarity does not equate with healing; understanding does not equate with restoration. The Disciple of the Internet insists on clarity; the mystic says, No— I need union with Christ here; that is my need.
We need to get back into the refuge of God as quickly as we can.
Our Internet mind-set is often in the way of healing if the pragmatic materialist in us demands full understanding. Think about the people in your life— do you really understand everything about them? People are complicated, filled with contradictions
and mystery; so are you. But still you love them and enjoy their company. You take trips together; you have rich conversations without everything needing to be sorted out. The mystic knows in their heart that they don’ t have to understand something in order to benefit from it. This is such a big idea, and so counter to our age of Internet Discipleship, I need to say it again: You don’ t have to understand something in order to benefit from it.
We don’ t have to dissect our experiences with God. We know with joy we simply invite him in, and follow him. The Revelation 3:20 invitation of Jesus is always at hand. The essentials look like this: We move straight toward the place of need within us. It might be fear; it might be a memory; it might be
