We are to love all our brothers and sisters in Christ , yet we often don ’ t understand how true love expressed . We are to hold each other accountable to the truth and keep each other from sin . This allows us to keep each other as close to Christ as possible so that we can be about the good works He has given us to do . We are to do this with a gentle spirit and with our only motivation being to keep each other living within the truth of God ’ s Word . In much of modern American culture , we hold up love as tolerance and a lack of confrontation , placing a false unity ahead of truth . This is a distortion of God ’ s Word . Real unity can only come as it is centered around truth .
The last words of Jesus are found in Revelation 22:12 , “ Look ! I am coming quickly , and My reward is with Me to repay each person according to what he has done .” Real love is doing all we can to hold each other accountable so that we may have as many rewards from Jesus when He returns as possible .
Holding a person accountable and a willingness to be accountable often involves the risk of confrontation and maybe even the loss of a friend . But love puts their relationship with God above their relationship with us . Love says we want the best for them , even if it costs us .
