Great leaders don ’ t just care about the size of their following — they care about the fruitfulness of their followers . “ By this my Father is glorified , that you bear much fruit ….” ( John 15:8 , ESV )
We want our kids to study hard and excel in their academics . We want our employees to be creative , diligent and productive . We want our parishioners to live joyfully , love deeply , and serve passionately . It ’ s sad and frustrating to watch gifted people settle into mediocrity or waywardness . We want to help people soar . But how ?
After 32 years as a lead pastor , I ’ ve become convinced that our most effective , God-given leadership tool is the power of blessing . It isn ’ t magic , but blessing , as painted into the biblical drama , mystically releases fruitfulness in a way that no ordinary encouragement or managerial skill can .
