“You might need more study to prove that.” He smiled slowly. “Would
you reconsider attending that film with me— Or no. We’ve been gone
for months, haven’t we. Then I will claim that I owe you dinner at
least.”
“But I failed you.”
“You came after me.” He brushed her hair from her face. “I don’t know
anyone else who would have.” Giancarlo’s gaze became more serious
and she could imagine the hedgehog’s frightened gaze peering out of
him. “Please?”
She had tried to play it safe by keeping him at a distance and he had
paid the price for that. “All right…. In the interests of science.”
