why?
achell Khoo’s
outlook on the
world is what first
captured my eye
when coming across her
beautiful snippets of
positivity on Instagram.
Her profound sense of
style, defined by her love
for monochrome and look
of romance and fluidity is
something to be adored and
cherished by many. Khoo’s
personality is equal to her
creativity, always helpful and
constantly interactive with
the people around her. We

Le Nuage de la Mode:
Fashion buying is your
main career, what enticed
you into buying first of all?
Khoo: My passion for style
and styling; I love putting
ready made designs together
to create a character.
After all, style manifests
personality.
What’s the driving force
behind your fashion

illustrations? What influences them?
My love for God and His art
work; nature. Everything
aboutnature inspires me, colours and pigments, textures
of rocks, leaves, grains of soil
and the organic flow through
it all.
Your style is impeccable
and appears to be based
mainly around monochromatic pieces that have a

I love colours and yet I dress
in black and white. I love
blending in details than
standing out in colours. My
favourite designer would be
Karl Lagerfeld; his works are
wearable art! And of course
his influence of black and
white.
What are your inspirations
and thoughts when
working as both a fashion
buyer and illustrator?
I get to immerse myself in
both the fashion business
world and the art world. I’m
learning a lot.
You are a Sydney based
fashion buyer, did you
grow up in Sydney?
I grew up in an island called
Penang in Malaysia actually.
I came to Australia seven
years ago to do my doubt
degree in Fashion Design and
Advertising. Continued on
staying here as I love it here,
I have worked in advertising,
publishing, fashion and now
buying and styling.
Lastly, what are your plans
for the future and what are
you working on right now?
Right now I’ve just founded
a company called Chivalry
Menswear, we’ll be an online

e-boutique; launching in
2014. †
