strong and eye-catching
designs, this season the
collection was focussed on
the Hutterites, a communical
branch of Anabaptists,
similar to the Amish in the
sense that they can trace
their roots back to the
16th Radical Reformation.
Hutterites colonies are
male-managed and women
are left to traditional
roles such as cooking and
medical decisions. However,

colonies choose fabric for
their handmade clothing
and, unlike the Amish, it is
full of pattern andcolour.

how Tamara and Natasha
Surguladze had been given a
photo album of portraits of a
Hutterites colony and were
struck with the “beautiful
imagery and their connection
to nature”. This was the main
inspiration behind not only
the collection itself but also
the hair styling by Toni &

of the face into small braids
at the sides and filtered
down into a long twisted
braid at the nape of the neck
which was backcombed, hair
sprayed and moussed so as
to create a weathered effect.
Label M dry shampoo was
added to the ends to add
more texture. The main idea
was to take a very pretty and
practical hair style, keeping it
off of the face and out of the
way, and treating it in a way
it would be weathered by the
