Tuesday , Sept . 19 , from 7 to 8:30 p . m ., celebrating the art and life of Laguna Beach artist Bill Odgen . Doors open at 6:30 p . m . at the Susi Q Center . The event is free to the public .
Former Laguna Beach High School art teacher Peter Tiner and Mitch Robinson , Odgen ’ s friend , will present The History of Bill Ogden , Laguna Beach Visionary Artist .
Bill Ogden came to Laguna Beach from Los Angeles in the 1960s .
A self-taught artist , he became a student of the Flemish master painters and spent hours studying and reading about them at local libraries .
His painting style mimicked theirs , starting with a sepia under layer and adding layers of color . For some who remember , he was known for his involvement in the Laguna Beach Christmas Happening and The Brotherhood of Eternal Love period , but that was just one of the notable moments in his long life as an artist .
Ogden ’ s work was vibrant and left its mark on our community . He was an exhibitor at The Sawdust Festival and was willing to take on many commercial art projects , like creating a series of calendars for The Sound Spectrum that are sought after by collectors today . posters represent a time in the 1970s and 1980s that marked Laguna Beach on the map of surfing hotspots .
Ogden loved Laguna , nature and his art . His love of nature and the ocean matched his love for the natural beauty of Laguna Beach shown in his paintings . He was a prolific painter and worked tirelessly at his craft becoming well known for his art along with contemporary Rick Giffin .
Laguna Beach Republicans to Feature Special Guest Speaker Scott Baugh
Special Guest Speaker Scott Baugh will present at the Laguna Beach Republicans Meeting on Sept . 20 . Baugh is a candidate for the 47th District Congressional seat in 2024 .
All conservatives , Republicans and Independents are invited to hear Baugh ’ s plans for winning the district back . Baugh has served on the presidential campaigns of President George W . Bush , Sen . John McCain , Gov . Mitt Romney and Sen . Marco Rubio .
The meeting will be held on Wednesday , Sept . 20 , at Mozambique Restaurant , 1740 S Coast Hwy , Laguna Beach . The social hour starts at 5 p . m . at Shebeen Bar , with the business meeting at 6 to 7:15 p . m . in the private dining room .

GLBGOP to Host Republican Presidential Primary Debate Watch Party
The Greater Laguna Beach GOP ( GLBGOP ) Members Meeting is on Wednesday , Sept . 27 at Mozambique . The event will start at 5 p . m . with a social hour in the Shebeen Bar . The meeting will start at 5:45 p . m . in the Boma Room . Attendees can mingle with fellow conservatives and enjoy Mozambique ’ s food and beverages . This month , the GLBGOP ’ s meeting is on the same evening as the second Republican Presidential Primary Debate , which will be livestreamed during the meeting . Third Street Writers is proud to present an ekphrastic writing workshop on the work of Joseph Kleitsch . As well as an exclusive tour of the current Laguna Art Museum exhibit of Kleitsch ’ s work , we will guide you through techniques and approaches to creative writing about art , whether as poetry , prose or personal essays . In this intensive but supportive environment , the goal is for participants to come away with an original work of literature centered on their responses to the work of this important American artist .
