Laguna Remembers 9 / 11
The Laguna Beach Fire and Police Departments conducted a remembrance and service ceremony to honor those who lost their lives on Sept . 11 , 2001 . The memorial was held at Monument Point in Heisler Park around ‘ Semper Memento ,’ a 2011 sculpture constructed by Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin using beams from the World Trade Center in New York City .
The ceremony began at 8:46 a . m . to coincide with the first attack on the twin towers , and included a countywide radio broadcast of the events that day . Fire Chief Niko King gave a message to the public , and OC Supervisor Katrina Foley was also present as the guest speaker . Photo / Jim Collins

The 57th Annual Brooks St . Surfing Classic went off without a hitch this past weekend with ideal surf conditions , stirred up by the passing Hurricane Jova , a storm creating high surf along Southern California beaches .
The surf contest , sponsored by the Brooks Street Surfing Classic organization and the City of Laguna Beach , is held annually in loving memory of the late Jack Denny , an influential Laguna surf community member . This year , the contest just happened to line up with the 25th anniversary of his passing .

The popular event returns in November with an outdoor sculptural installation and performance by Cristopher Cichocki , immersive programming and free Family Festival

The Laguna Art Museum is gearing up for its 11th annual Art & Nature , a yearly immersive exhibit into the symbiotic relationship between art and the natural world . The Art & Nature initiative addresses the environmental situation through a creative and unique lens - the artist ’ s perspective . Starting Nov . 2 , the multidisciplinary event will converge art , science and nature on a grand scale . Art & Nature is the museum ’ s largest public program of the year . It brings together thousands of participants to encourage a love of nature , raise environmental awareness and discover cross-sections between science and the arts .
At the heart of Art & Nature 2023 is Cristopher Cichocki , the visionary artist whose outdoor installation , Rising Inversion , will debut at Laguna ’ s Main Beach on Nov . 2 to 5 .
Rising Inversion harnesses oceanic and planetary elements engaging in direct dialogue with the surrounding natural landscape of Laguna Beach . From dawn to dusk , this transformative installation morphs from a sprawling arc of sand and barnacles into a luminescent orb rising over the Pacific shoreline . This synergy
