Laguna Beach Unified School District Announces Year-Round Mental Health Care Coordination Service for Students , Staff and Families
By LB Indy Staff In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May , the Laguna Beach Unified School District ( LBUSD ) recently announced its selection of Care Solace , an organization designed to calm the chaos of mental health care coordination , to expand access to community mental health and substance use treatment providers for students , staff and families .
With Care Solace , families and staff will have a dedicated care companion to navigate the mental health care system on their behalf , calling providers to
find the right fit and availability . They help families with private insurance , Medicaid , and no insurance and are available 24 hours a day , seven days a week , 365 days a year , in any language .
“ Increased student needs for mental health care demand that we continue to identify opportunities to integrate these services into our school settings where students can easily and readily access them ,” said LBUSD Superintendent and Orange County Superintendents ’ Mental Health Workgroup Chair Jason Viloria . “ In recent years , adding resources to meet students ’ social , emotional and
behavioral needs has become an even greater priority for schools in Orange County . Partnerships with organizations such as Care Solace introduce new support layers to our already robust school-based mental health support systems .”
Care Solace ’ s care navigation system uses proprietary technology and a vast behavioral and mental health resources database to find carefully verified therapists and programs in minutes .
“ We believe that social-emotional well-being is essential for learning and success . With CareSolace , our school psychologists , school counselors , and student support specialists can extend our impact and reach to ensure students , families , and staff have timely access to qualified mental health care ,” Director of Social and Emotional Support Michael Keller said . “ This resource helps simplify the complexity of accessing high-quality care services while families are in crisis .”

The finishing touches are complete . Local Laguna artist Andrew Myers will open the doors to his new gallery space on Forest Avenue tomorrow , May 13 , with an official grand opening celebration next door at Brussels Bistro .
Located on 224 Forest Avenue , Andrew Myers Gallery features a variety of different artists along with Myers ’ own screw art and mixed media pieces . Los Angeles-based mixed media artist Christopher Schulz , glassblower Chris Ahalt , William Henry ’ s
artisan knives , and leathercrafter Benjamin Myers are among some of the artists on display at the gallery .
“ I ’ m representing a bunch of artists that have never shown in California , a lot of artists from the East Coast , trying to bring in art to Laguna that is completely different and creative to what you usually find in town ,” Myers said .
Born in Germany and raised in Spain until 16 years old , Myers ’ parents moved to Laguna Beach when he graduated high school . He enrolled at Laguna College of Art and Design

where he discovered his artistic passion while touring the school . Myers saw students depicting live models in clay , and he immediately knew he wanted to be a sculptor .
“ I walked into a class and we were doing sculptures ,” Myers said . “ I instantly fell in love . I knew that ’ s what I wanted to do . I was 23 years old and just ready to give art a shot . Fast forward 20 years later , here we are .”
Serendipitously , Myers ’ gallery is located in the same space where he got his first break as an artist .
“ This space was actually my first gallery show ,” he said .
Now opening up his own place , Myers ’ hope for the gallery is to create an artistic space that is welcoming to everyone .
“ I ’ ve never appreciated that about galleries , you know , just how pretentious and intimidating they can be ,” Myers said . “ So I want to get away from that completely . I want to create a place that ’ s inviting for everyone . You don ’ t have to buy something to come in . I just want you to enjoy what we ’ ve set up .”

still-life paintings and , eventually , masterful portraits with which he built his name . In 1920 , Kleitsch and his wife Edna settled in Laguna Beach , where he became a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association and began painting landscapes and street scenes . Notably , Kleitsch ’ s painting , The Old Post Office , depicts a historic view of the town ’ s first post office , located near present-day Laguna Avenue and Coast Highway .
In 1924 , Kleitsch painted several works at the Mission San Juan Capistrano and created two nearly identical views of “ downtown ” Laguna titled Laguna Road I and Laguna Road II , showing the unpaved Coast Boulevard that was finally paved in 1926 . In 1926 , Kleitsch sailed to Europe , where he painted in Paris , Normandy , Claude Monet ’ s home village of Giverny , among other places . He returned to America in 1927 after being away for 22 months .
Despite his untimely death at 49 years old , Kleitsch ’ s art continues to live on , and his role as a chronicler of old Laguna adds to his standing among the best of California ’ s artists .
Laguna Art Museum will produce a catalog documenting the historic exhibition , which will be available in the museum store .
