The season opens with a road trip to San Marcos in Santa Barbara on Dec . 2 as Laguna will take on the Royals , expected to be one of the top 5 teams in California this season . The following day Laguna will travel to Studio City to play Harvard-Westlake at the Wolverine ’ s pool . Laguna will actually have a home game at the Laguna Community Pool on Dec . 6 at 4 p . m ., against San Clemente .
Since Girls Water Polo became an official CIF sport in the 1990s , Laguna has emerged as the most dominate program in Southern California with a 583-151 all-time record .

Five Summer Stories : The Exhibition , is presented in partnership with MacGillivray Freeman Films and Coast Film Festival in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic surf documentary , includes a sneak peek of the film and historic imagery , clothing , and items from the era of the film .
In addition to the Art & Nature festival exhibitions , Her Great Gift : The Nancy Dustin Wall Moure Collection is on view through Feb . 12 , 2023 . The collection includes 40 artworks made from the 1830s through the 1970s that trace how artists documented the California experience . Her Great Gift is the first presentation of the Nancy Dustin Wall Moure Collection and features some of the earliest known oil paintings made in Southern California , California plein air paintings , watercolors from the WPA period , mid-century abstractions and explorations into Light and Space . Artists include Mabel Alvarez , Karl Benjamin , Norton Bush , D . J . Hall , Roger Kuntz , Fernand Lungren , James McCray , Arnold Mesches , Charles Rollo Peters , F . The museum also presents Photography & Seduction : William Mortensen ’ s Laguna Beach , on view through Jan . 15 , 2023 . The exhibition honors the Laguna Beach resident and is one of the only museum exhibitions of his work , illustrating his ascent as one of the most famous photographers of his time . Photography & Seduction a journey through Mortensen ’ s career from his star-studded Hollywood beginnings to his teachings , as well as influences , processes and more . The exhibition aims to share Mortensen ’ s contributions to and influence on American photography , while also sharing his connection to Laguna Beach .
Gelson ’ s Annual Toy Drive starts Dec . 5 Gelson ’ s customers are encouraged to take part in Gelson ’ s annual toy drive to benefit disadvantaged children across the region . Customers who visit any of its 27 locations across Southern California can participate by donating a toy between Dec . 5-16 . There will be a red bin in each store for donation drop-off . DUI checkpoints and patrols specifically focused on suspected impaired drivers and suspected distracted drivers in violation of California ’ s hands-free cell phone law . Bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operations focused on driver behaviors that put vulnerable road users at risk , as well as enforcement operations focused on top violations that cause crashes : speeding , failure to yield , stop signs and / or red-light running , and improper turning or lane changes .
The grant will also provide money for community education presentations on traffic safety issues such as distracted driving , DUI , speeding , and bicycle and pedestrian safety and officer training and / or recertification : Standard Field Sobriety Test ( SFST ), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement ( ARIDE ) and Drug Recognition Expert ( DRE ).

The historic Blue Bell Upper House was the home of “ O Pioneer ” author Willa Cather . The cottage was later owned by cat-lover Bertha Gray Yergat , who bequeathed her residence specifically for a cat sanctuary and established the foundation in 1986 . Yergat ’ s own cats lived there after her death . John and Susan Hamil took over management of Blue Bell and continue to be board members today . Susan is the executive director , while John is the acting treasurer and secretary .

Anderson Wentzel House or Lower House . All animals live cage-free , with 24-hour health care available from local veterinarians . Every resident gets a regular check-up and blood work at least once a year , along with shots , medications , surgery and dental care .
“ It ’ s really quite an operation ,” Mikula said . “ Each of our 40 cats gets their own medical chart , and every day , we record all the medications they get regularly and any treatments they ’ re getting that are outside of that . Also , if we check their weight , if we trim their nails , if there is any vomiting or diarrhea , we record all of that . That ’ s what having staff enables us to do , really pay attention to detail and care for them .”
This kind of care and attention requires five paid staff , two janitors and an army of 41 active volunteers ranging from 17 to 89 years old . They collectively spend around 80 hours a week caring for the cats with flexible

commitment levels . As a non-profit , Blue Bell heavily leans on donations from the public to stay operational , and because of rising vet and pet food costs , it ’ s needed more than ever . Not only that , the Founders Gardens , Upper House and Anderson-Wentzel House require regular maintenance .
“ Funding has become more of an issue for us due to the rise in the cost of everything , really ,” Mikula said . “ Also , we have plans for renovations , particularly out here are floors and roof to be redone . There ’ s always something to do here , and we could use all the help from the community we can get .”
