things for the city so they don ’ t have to do them . It ’ s just giving back to your neighbor , to the non-profits and to Laguna Beach .”
On Saturday , Love Laguna will start the day with a kick off event from 8 to 9 a . m at Laguna Beach Community and Susi Q Center . Coffee and refreshments will be served while volunteers gather all our project leaders and volunteers for a big send off . Then , from 9 a . m . to 12 p . m ., the crowd will separate to complete different projects .
“ There ’ s quite a few different people doing cookies for those seniors ,” Duncan said . “ We ’ re painting the bench benches at Suzi Q , and we ’ re
painting the gazebo out by the ocean where a lot of people get married . There ’ s a group of Rotarians going out to the pantry and doing some behind the scenes work . Not what they do out front , as in give food away , but maybe packaging some things up for them , which will make it easier for them for the next couple of weeks , especially with Thanksgiving around the corner . There ’ s a closet at the Friendship Shelter , where they toss clothes that are donated to them , and no one really straightens that closet . Those are just some examples of projects people can take part in .”
Duncan said the event expects a huge turnout , with many volunteer projects already full . However , the public can still sign up for the Main Beach cleanup , historic downtown bungalow docents , creating homemade holiday cards for Laguna Food Pantry families , helping with the ini-
tial kick off at the Susi Q and several other projects .
“ If was a betting woman , I say we ’ ve got a couple 100 people involved . But these other cities like Anaheim and Fullerton have been doing it for years . And We ’ re a smaller city , but they ’ ve got a couple 1000 people for this event . So it ’ s something that can grow and I just like how it crosses over and after we have been through elections , you know , different things to just come together and do things for each other .
The Love Laguna Beach kick off event will start at the Community and Susi Q Center at 380 3rd Street , Laguna Beach , Calif . 92651 . Interested parties are welcome to sign up online or arrive in person on the day to get a volunteer assignment . For more information , or to sign up , visit Lovelaguna . org .

pumpkins , things like that .”
Sensory play , and experience with a variety of tools , helps preschoolers build hand strength , dexterity , and endurance , frequently referred to as “ fine motor ” skills . The development of these skills supports early and future writing success .
The school currently has 15 students total since it started in South Laguna , with room for plenty more .
“ They don ’ t all come on the same day ,” Plumb said . “ Because some are here Monday , Wednesday , Friday . So we have about 10 children each day . We have room for 36 . Okay , so yes , we do hope to grow . But we ’ re happy to start smaller . I think growth this year is probably going to be pretty small . But what ’ s happening that ’ s really nice is that people are reaching out already for next year . So we just had another tour recently . So I think January is another big starting point for three-year-olds .”
Plumb said that , as well as their sensory learning program , they ’ re also proud of their social emotional
learning program .
“ We really focus at the beginning of the year on identifying our own feelings , and learning to identify the feelings of others , which is so important at this age ,” Plumb said . “ We do lots of things with sharing and taking turns and problem-solving . And we don ’ t tell the children what to say , or do we guide them in that and they ’ ve had so much experience , we do lots of role plays with puppets , which is really fun . And they identify their feelings that way and we discuss it as a group . And I think that ’ s something we ’ re proud of , because the children have
a sense of community . They ’ re really good to one another . They show a lot of empathy to one another . And that just that makes us feel very proud .”

switch with no new orders coming until he got bored and left the room .
It was fascinating how authority was perceived as permission to demand performance from others . Politeness was seen as weakness . When in the slave position , resistance was communicated through thinly disguised disdain .
For the game to continue , there had to be some resistance . When Kyle brought a willingness to follow anyone ’ s orders , all players lost interest . No tension , no game .
Better than , less than , dominant , submissive , ruler , ruled , strong , weak , hard , soft ; witnessing their imaginative play was fascinating . They defined their roles and then played at trading places , all with an ease and enthusiasm that allowed their game to continue .
Androgyny is a term used to define the presence of both masculine and feminine characteristics . In fact , when freed through spontaneous creativity ,
masculine and feminine attributes pass into one another . Fluid hardens to solid , and solid rushes to fluid .
Watching their play was a perfect example that when rigid definitions of what is masculine and what is feminine are removed , active and receptive energy can move and flow .
By six and seven years old , both Elena and Jake had ingested the societal dictate that it is better to be a ‘ hammer than a nail .’
Perhaps our challenge as a society is to elevate kindness , compassion , cooperation , and service as a necessary and equal partner to power . When power and service marry , it becomes possible to create interdependent relationships .
The definition of king is a monarch who inherits this position and rules for life . When we surrender the crown , it becomes possible to engage our ability to act , influence and inspire . We can cultivate our power to be responsive , response-able to our own needs as well as energetic contributors to the welfare of others .

We anticipate them starting the police academy in March 2023 . Moreover , we have 21 recruit candidates who passed the physical agility test and written examination and will be interviewed in the next few weeks .
We also have been fortunate to add several new positions to our roster recently . We filled the existing K9 vacancy and have added a second enforcement K9 position to provide seven-day-a-week coverage . Additionally , we added a Facility K9 position to promote employee wellness , community engagement , and to help comfort victims , witnesses and community members exposed to trauma . We have added a third Motor Officer position to help focus on traffic-related issues impacting our City . We also signed a Joint Agreement with the Newport Beach Police Department to assign a corporal and sergeant to ancillary SWAT duties .
This immediately paid dividends
when we recently had a full SWAT callout on 10th Avenue about a barricaded attempted murder suspect . We also added a part-time cold case detective to the detective bureau , who brings a breadth of experience to help solve major unsolved crimes .
To address quality of life issues in neighborhoods and parks most impacted by visitors , we have added three full-time park rangers , with the plan to expand the program to five full-time and five part-time park rangers by next summer .
Finally , interviews are being conducted right now for several applicants for the existing captain vacancy . The goal is to have the new captain in place before the end of the year . Unfortunately , we have two sergeants and one corporal out with long term injuries .
