Lazette Special Issue: Living Not Surviving May 2021 | Page 6

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic , La Salle Green Hills ( LSGH ) facilitated online education throughout SY
2020-2021 through the implementation of the Flexible Lasallian Education Through Technology and Collaboration at Home ( FLETCH ) online learning system on its official learning platform , Ranger 360 .
Beginning on July 20 , 2020 , FLETCH is an online education system that is self-paced through the utilization of both synchronous and asynchronous class sessions with Ranger 360 serving as the main hub for learning .
Before the beginning of the school year , LSGH President Br . Edmundo “ Dodo ” L . Fernandez FSC stated that the creation of FLETCH was necessitated out of
the need to continue educating despite the current predicament .
“ We have had some minimal online experience , but I don ’ t think any high school or elementary
school can say honestly they ’ re fully prepared . We really had to make a decision to go full online . We don ’ t have any
choice , basically . I ’ ve been pushing them . The academic team has been meeting almost daily . We ’ re going to start simulation online , so that when we open July 20 , we would have had
seven weeks of experience , because I am sure there will be a lot of issues that will arise ,” he said .
He added , “ In terms of hardware , our classrooms are pretty good . From a grade of one to 10 , baka
mga eight . We have monitors in every classroom . We ’ re connected ,”
Although , the online setup was initially only supposed to last for the first two trimesters , the circumstances that the school had found itself in entailed the
action of going fully online for the year so as not to risk the safety of students and personnel .
In the meantime , the school hopes to administer a blended learning system that incorporates
elements of both online and face-to-face learning by August 2021 provided that it will be approved by the Department of Education ( DepEd ) and health authorities .
In an interview last year , Br . Dodo has clarified that blended learning is not equivalent to full on-site lessons ; rather , he explained that the blended learning system would be a mix of both face-to-face and online classes .
“ When we say blended , it ’ s really not full on-site . We ’ re trying to come up with a program where maybe for two or three days , they can be in school . The rest of the week they can be at home . We ’ re trying to come up
with a schedule that will be at least safe and healthy ,” he explained .
When asked about his thoughts on how the future of education would be conducted after the
pandemic , Br . Dodo believed that it would take the form of a mixed set-up .
“ I think all schools will have a huge learning experience with the full online . I think , in the end , it
will be somewhat blended … there is value in coming to school . I have no doubt about that . But as we realize that
learning can take place at home independently , I think there will be more of that ,” Br . Dodo said .
