did. Curt and everyone else were impressed with Mysti,
invited her up to New York for a meeting, and she
became the second half of Déjà. The new duo started
work on their sophomore album which produced
“Made to Be Together” which cracked the upper
reaches of the US Billboard R&B chart. The album was
also called Made to Be Together and was produced by
the young New Jack Swing pioneer and legendary super
producer Teddy Riley in 1989.
After the minor success of their sophomore album, the
duo left Virgin Records. Curt decided to make some
serious changes in his life as he grew up in the business.
Jones felt it was time to start a family in which he got
married and had a son they named Brandon. The bona
fide star and entertainer still continued to write,
produce, and record while holding down his family.
Curt even started an independent production company
with a good friend, Kendall Stubbs whom he had met
recalls loving the new sound and carried on with it
releasing an album in 2006 named Curt Jones 360, Curt
Jones Solo (2010), and Curt Jones III (2015). He started
distributing his music on CD Baby, an online music store
specializing in the sale of CDs, vinyl records and music
downloads from independent musicians to consumers.
Jones release three CDs in the past ten years using such
services.
Nowadays, you can find Curt down in Dallas, Texas still
doing his thing producing his fiancé’s debut solo album
Lessons of Love. Recording all of his work in him home
studio has kept his expenditures at a minimum only
paying his engineer (formerly from the House of Music)
to master his work which has been very cost effective.
Curt was proud to mention that his son, Brandon
graduated Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU
in May of 2015 and is now a musician who goes by the

through the world renowned funk/r & b/soul group
Kool and the Gang at the House of Music in West
Orange, New Jersey. The pair started writing and
recording songs to shop around which Curt expressed
was his least favorite part of the music business.
Jones added that he learned a lot about music
engineering from Stubbs and they worked well
together doing remix work for RCA which began to be
lucrative. Curt recalls meeting his current fiancé CeCe
London as she was signed to Virgin at this time. He
continued to exercise his chops by playing in corporate
bands and also started a couple of bands singing the
songs he wanted to sing. Jones had even gotten back
into playing the guitar which he had gotten away from
for a while. Curt upgraded his equipment to digital and
name of Topaz Jones. Topaz has been releasing music
for some time now and you can catch a lot of his videos
on YouTube. I can say Curt Jones is a musical genius
because he learned as a youth to play multiple
instruments and could sing as well developing himself
from a child prodigy to an all-around entertainer. It’s
rare that one man can achieve so much success playing
in over ten bands, being a solo act, and is still carry on for
nearly forty years and is still relevant to this day. Curt
was on an episode of the popular TV Show Unsung on TV
One with Slave but in my opinion, Jones is not unsung as
he can sing these new millennium singers under a table
with his crystal clear, perfect pitch and style that only he
has mastered. It’s like his voice and musical abilities have
stood the test of time and I can only expect more from
the mighty Curt Jones for years to come.
