- LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL is a potent antifungal. Studies have shown it is effective for athlete?s foot,
thrush, and yeast infections. You can use lemon essential oil by diffusing it or applying it topically. To
diffuse lemon essential oil, place three or four drops in the diffuser of your choice. To use lemon
essential oil topically, mix it well with a carrier oil of your choice. Caution: Lemon essential oil is
photosensitive, meaning that it reacts to natural sunlight, sun lamps, and other sources of UV rays.
When using photosensitizing oil, wait a minimum of six hours before exposing skin to UV rays. Or wear
sunblock and protective clothing.
- CLOVE OIL is a very powerful antimicrobial. It is often used for toothaches and gum infections. It is
very strong so use with caution on skin. Dilute to 1% or less.
- BASIL has an herbal aroma that helps refresh the mind. It also clears sinuses and soothes coughs. It
also has insecticidal properties.
The complete list of antimicrobial essential oils is long; others include peppermint , eucal ypt us,
l avender, pal marosa, l emongrass, orange, geranium, and cit ronel l a, to name a few. All essential oils
are very potent and need to be diluted in water or a carrier oil (like coconut oil) before using on skin.
You can select the appropriate oils for your need and make your own essential oil blend. Or you can try
these formulas. These are two of my favorites antimicrobial blends1:
This is a basic antimicrobial blend you can create at home. Not only does this spice blend have a
fresh-baked pumpkin pie scent, it will also help you relax and disinfect the air. It is also a great
substitute to those synthetically perfumed candles.
Pumpkin Spice Aroma Essential Oil Blend
- Twenty drops cinnamon essential oils
- Twenty drops ginger essential oils
- Twenty drops nutmeg essential oils
- Fifteen drops clove bud essential oils
- Five drops cardamom essential oils
Add all essential oils to a glass bottle. One one-quarter ounce bottle will hold this blend perfectly.
Screw cap on tightly and invert the bottle to blend the oils.
Diffusing: Fill your essential oil diffuser reservoir with water. Add five to six drops of the Pumpkin Spice
Essential Oil Blend. Light a tea candle in the base of your diffuser and enjoy as your space fills with this
spicy aroma!
Citrus Antimicrobial Aroma Essential Oil Blend
- Twenty drops lemon essential oils
- Twenty drops lime essential oils
- Twenty drops eucalyptus essential oils
- Fifteen drops lemongrass bud essential oils
- Five drops rosemary essential oils
Add all essential oils to a glass bottle. One one-quarter ounce bottle will hold this blend perfectly.
Screw cap on tightly and invert the bottle to blend the oils.
I love to use this blend to create a DYI nontoxic Febreze to deodorize my furniture.
