East Bernstadt , Laurel County teachers honored for excellence
Both East Bernstadt and Laurel County school districts were home to teachers honored for their excellence in teaching .
Campbellsville University began the Excellence in Teaching Award Program in 1987 with assistance from Mr . Earl Aaron and the Ward , Cundiff , and Aaron Memorial Fund . The purpose of the program is to recognize the quality teaching and learning taking place in the school systems throughout Kentucky .
East Bernstadt Independent Schools had two teachers honored .
Jessica Smallwood who is an elementary teacher at East Bernstadt was a recipient as was Curtis Storm who is a middle school teacher at East Bernstadt .
Laurel County Schools had three teachers from the district honored . Catherine Finley at Bush Elementary was selected . Robin Stone was chosen from North Laurel Middle School . Col . Mark Jones from South Laurel High School was honored .
In addition to recognition and an awards ceremony , recipients will receive a personalized certificate .

Gene Allen Administration Building honors longtime board member
The Gene Allen Administration Building is the newest addition to the East Bernstadt Independent School . The building bears the name of long-time board member , Gene Allen , who was the longest serving school board member in Kentucky . Allen passed away in 2020 .
