Crafters were pleased with sales and attendance at several arts and craft shows hosted at London Farmers Market and London Community Center , with more events planned for 2022 . Farmers Market also hosts three weekly markets for Kentucky Proud produce for those wishing to buy fresh , locally raised meat , vegetables , fruits and their by-products . Tourism looms large for Laurel County with outdoor events including hiking , kayaking , bicycling while the city parks system has completed an enhanced disc golf course and pickle ball courts . The splash pads at Mill Street Park and Wellness Park continue to be popular sites during the summer months with their playgrounds and other features that provide healthy activities for the community . The Whitley Branch Veterans Park and Rotary Park also provide recreational opportunities for all ages with the Rotary Park , Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park and Wellness Park offering equipment for mobility challenged and / or autistic children . The Archery Shooters Association tournament in May brings in the largest number of tourists for the annual event , although the Redbud Ride in April and World Chicken Festival in September draw visitors from across the country . The Town Center Park launched its inaugural Summer Concert Series in June , July and August , with planning already underway for the coming summer concerts . London hosted its first-ever Heritage Music Series featuring Appalachian singer / songwriters , with such success that the series returned for a fall session in November . The spring 2022 session is set for March . Other new events included the Honey Bun Run , a 5K fundraiser , and Cider Night that featured crafters and local food and drink vendors for another evening of fun . Business saw a huge gain in 2021 , with 11 new restaurants , 78 new retail stores , 19 industrial and 30 eCommerce facilities opening . Existing businesses also fared well with 34 relocating to larger spaces and 17 others experiencing expansions . Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield said the continuing growth is due to cooperation of local leaders as well as collaboration among businesses and the economic development authority .
