LauraBijoux - Eco-Friendly and Fair Trade Jewellery October 2016 | Page 2
My name Laura Torster, I am a Brazilian living in Portugal. I design and
handmade all LauraBijoux jewellery.
LauraBijoux is Eco-Friendly and Fair Trade jewellery made for Urban
life; is style inspired in the Nature and in a Sustainable World!
I always strive to create Eco-friendly and Fair Trade products using
natural materials such as seeds, nuts, natural gemstones, mother of
pearl and wood. To give an urban touch I like to mix these natural
materials with quality glass beads, crystals, etc. I avoid to use materials
that I know that are harmful to the environment. The origin and how the
materials are made is very important for me. For example, for me is very
important to know how the seeds and nuts I use are produced and
treated, all the process has to be sustainable. It is important for me to
know that all the supply I use is not produced by children, by slave work
and that the employees are paid fairly. Fair trade is the solution!
This is LauraBijoux!
Almost all of the seeds I use are from palm trees that grow in my native
Brazil. They are really amazing! All the seeds I use are obtained using
sustainable extraction methods. This extraction is made by people who
respectably harvest only authorized quantities during the correct season.
The harvest is always respectful of the animals that share the
environment with the palm trees. A good example is the respect of the
“first harvest.” These first seeds are always for the “curicas,” birds of
many species from the Amazon forest. I’d also like to say a few words
about the people who do this job for a living. They are the native people
of the forest who know how to show their natural environment the
respect it deserves. These seeds are bought at a fair price from the
natives and are sanded and dyed using natural materials.
