Latin Times Interview with
Writer/Director Fredgy Noël
Congratulations to Tiara Biggs
Reaching for dreams, despite
the obstacles!
I'm team MOM, I got pregnant during my
Jr year in High School, yes, it was earlier than I anticipated but my pregnancy
didn't stop me from achieving my goals.
I withdrew from Freedom and attended
Gary adult High School. This program is
developed for the teenage mom, and had
an adjacent daycare next to my classroom,
so my son went to school with me every
single day.
I didn't have to worry about who's going
to take care of my son this program helped
me tremendously, I also took online courses and I was able to get ahead. Unfortunately the program ended however I was
able to return to Freedom High School
and graduate with my class. I am now
happily married and a proud mother of
two!
Victor Padilla: Please tell us about where
you come from and your Family History?
Fredgy: My family is from Haiti. I was
born in Miami, and at 2 months moved
to Haiti, where I lived for 7 years. I loved
growing up on the island. Our family is
from Les Cayes; a small city in the south.
Les Cayes has many roots with the Spanish
community, Simón Bolívar went there in
search of support for his movement against
the Spanish colonial government in South
America and after the 2010 earthquake,
the Cuban military set up a hospital there.
I’m very honored to be interviewed by the
Latin Times!
Victor Padilla: What inspired you to
become a writer/director?
Fredgy: When I was a child I had to
translate for my
grandmother often; so I learned
how to be an
effective communicator and
how to express
statements while
balancing the
nuances of different cultures.
Poetry and short
stories came naturally and by the
Victor Padilla: Tell us about your Film
“Milking It”?
Fredgy: “Milking It” is a dark romantic
comedy. It’s a story that follows a presumably motherless woman who seduces men
with the sole purpose of befriending their
mothers. I wrote this short during a very
painful time in my life. I was, and still am,
mourning the loss of my mother-in-law;
from my sadness, anger, and disillusionment came a story about a girl named
Josephine and her search for a mother.
Some may not agree with her methods, but
ultimately she's looking for the connection
that we all are seeking.
Victor Padilla: Tell us about any new
projects your working on?
Fredgy: I’m working on a few fun projects
at the moment. This summer I’m shooting
a documentary and writing the feature version of “Milking It.” It’s all exciting stuff!
Victor Padilla: Who is your hero and
inspiration?
Fredgy: I look up to the fearless women
who have come before me, and those w
